Shot this spring in Southern California/practically Mexico.
Not prone to portraiture… But I had spent the 2 or 3 days leading up to this absolutely miserable— lost and scattered in the incessant desert winds (what is new). I often don’t feel good in my body. I spend a large portion of every day feeling bad from muscle spasms and nerve pain. The wind is the least helpful addition I can imagine. I hate the wind. I’ll take anything else. I’d trade it for spiders inside my mouth. Just stuff em in there. When I finally decided to stop rolling around in my misery and shoot, it ended up being exactly that. I allowed myself to stop reacting to the suffering that enveloped me and chose to greet the pacifying sensations that came with watching the sun melt over the low horizon. Even if the wind made my eyes hurt. It offered me the ability to find some stillness in the chaos. Seems to be feigning but eventually it’s real forging. Shooting this and several other moments that I won’t share here (hinty hint) is what helped me turn a corner into a more peaceful existence in the relatively tiny space that I occupied in the vast and endless plane of Fuck-You Wind and Pretty Sunset. I don’t seem to be getting any better at not finding myself in a funk, but am noticing and deeply revering the increasingly concise ability to crawl out on my own accord with the help of tools that I’ve gathered to help me.
