Here’s some pics of my insides! Specifically my sacrum. I got an epidural yesterday. They shoot some local anesthetic into my back, then once I’m numb they inject contrast dye and with the use of X-ray, guide tubes into the holes of my sacrum (L5, S1). Once they hit the correct nerve roots in my spinal canal, they inject a cocktail of lidocaine and cortisone down the canal and bathe my nerves in anti inflammatory soup. It gives me crazy nightmares for about a month! That’s actually my biggest deterrent to getting these done 😅 I’ve had 6. I cry every time.
The neck will be two diagnostic blocks like these and then a third procedure where they feed electrodes into the nerve roots and instead of bathing them in steroids, they actually heat them up and burn the tissues so they can’t send pain signals to my brain (they heal eventually so it’s not permanent). None of these procedures help my posture or spinal stability! Theyre just tools to offer relief as I continue on my journey. I actually got a few more MRIs over the past two weeks and my low back discs are healing. ALL due to fixing my posture. The biomechanical rehab endeavors that started this whole self portraiture journey! Fucking rad and so intimately connected and kind of a big mess but I’m ready and I’m doing it and I’m making progress.
