EXPEDITION CAROLINA (recap gratitude slash teaser)
Added 2021-07-08 18:03:42 +0000 UTCNow that I'm back in a place with walls and slowly recuperating, here's a recap of my two month trip to Western Carolina where I hopped back and forth between the two states and filled my soul while getting my water gush fix.
When I started this trip I was super fucking depressed, and had been at a rock bottom for a really long time. I got stuck in Norfolk, VA for the entirely of the pandemic due to my inability to work and pay rent (and also travel), and it slowly sucked me totally dry. My pain also followed. It was a big big leap for me to buy the van, build it out, and eventually embark in it full time for many weeks with the amount of pain I've been in. But I needed to push through for my brain and soul because everything was so fucked up and I had to start somewhere.
I did a lot of exploring and got naked outside a lot. Found some good solitude. Saw so many little critters and put some of them on my body. I didn't take any paid modeling/photography work on purpose to prioritize my own healing and happiness. God knows I could've used the cash but it was an important factor for this trip. I don't think I was physically able to do any work or be accountable for showing up anywhere at any specific time lest I be writhing in a ball somewhere. So I played and explored and rested and went to the gym every day I was near one to do my awkward subtle posture correction exercises. I sorta maintained my physical state while I injected my mental state with wonder and excitement and eventually contentment and ease. I met some good people, learned some good hard lessons, cried a bunch, and took all of the waterfall pics.
I'm back in VA adding some really necessary upgrades to the van before heading north for some cooler air and to attend an event in August. Then I'm home free to Colorado to see my doctors and hopefully get some help mitigating all this health shit while I continue to rehab my body and heal. Gonna see a bunch of physiotherapists and bodywork practitioners and go all in on the stuff that has now been slipping for way too long. Really really excited to get off this plateau.
