Trapper has been a focal character for me lately. It's just really fun to explore how much of a polar opposite to Tre he is - meatheaded, stubborn, and much more concerned with competition and proving his masculinity (though he really doesn't have anything to prove...) qualities which I've touched on before over here, particularly with that comic illustration of him literally butting heads with Tre on the field.
I started experimenting with a future Trapper a few months ago, as I felt he would have a very interesting character progression as he aged. I don't really like aging my characters - I've touched on this before, they will pretty much always be the age they are now, and Trapper will always be a huge, athletic college boy for example... so any future stuff is meant to be kind of compartmentalized and not considered "current" - but temporary glances into their future can be fun, for character design purposes and also just, in general, putting a fresh spin on some stuff.
As Trapper's grandpa Victor ages and decides to retire, he looks to pass ownership of his company onto one of his grandkids... his first decision being Tre, although its kind of clear he doesn't want it - he's not the business type, and doesn't really have the nerves of steel to run a corporation - something which Trapper is aware of, and promptly swoops in and offers to take over in order to save his cousin the stress. Although he doesn't announce this as his reasoning, it is fully his intent... in an attempt to make things right between he and Tre.
Not that anything is majorly wrong between the two, it's really something that weighs on Trapper's conscious and something only he perceives, honestly. I don't want to say too much about it here since I'd like to properly talk about or illustrate it in a way that does the idea justice later on.
Anyway, Trapper becomes a CEO. He's still a stubborn meathead, but as a dad he's kind of a softie. He likes to play the part of being a mean corporate head, and he can be scary... he has a no bullshit attitude, but really you could do worse than having him as your boss. He's pro LGBT and yearns to do what's "right", but in the process he's going to take advantage of his position occasionally... the luxuries it offers him are nice, and, well... women are still swooning over him, something that has been a constant through his life regardless.
Basically, he's an aging wolf pushing 40 who thinks himself an alpha, but he's still learning a ton about what it means to be an adult.
This just seems like the natural progression for Trapper to me. I could never see Tre in this position, but Trapper has enough of a bullheaded idea of what it means to be a wolf, and some hardass ways of thinking when it comes to concepts like "leadership", that I just really saw him in the position of CEO. I feel a bit silly attaching this longwinded of an explanation to this simple illustration, but, idk... yall seem to like this stuff.
There will be more of future Trapper, too.
