as I'm sure you know, Marty is one of the focal characters of the recent comics I've been posting here. the recent page gives some pretty quick but deep context to his upbringing, starting as a poor kid with a struggling father and moving frantically from place to place until finding stability just in time for his high school years; where he grew up in a small rural community and finally was able to flourish.
Marty's story is one that's very comforting to me, even though I didn't live his childhood it's an easy one to empathize with; but what really makes it so good is his ability to rise above it. living in the valley was not literally perfect, but between his dad keeping his job and how successful his school life had been, Marty considered it to be pretty much perfect.
this dude is a rock for his boyfriend Diesel - his turbulent experience growing up was turned into strong empathy for others, and while Diesel has his own issues from the past he didn't come out on the other side of them as strong... which is why being able to lean on Marty has helped him so much.
small break from comics this week - I wanna do more of these and they will be happening, there may just be gaps at times so I don't burn out.
