post emo goth dad

years ago. yeeeears ago. when I first made tre, carper, stone, etc. I sketched a dad for stone, named "Brock". my initial goal with this character was that he was a rockstar, and his son found him kind of cringe-y. time passed. my characters kind of exist in a nebulous, floating timeline where time is kinda frozen, and as things change IRL I sort of change things for them a bit...

when brock was first created, it was like, 2014. and I had this idea that he was not a great dad (those of you that own my first art book probably know this, most of the "info" in that one is outdated by now by far unfortunately) and I have since outgrown this idea and made him just, a really nice, chill dad who happened to be the lead of an emo band in the early-mid 00s.

brock is not a destructive rockstar. he is not majorly egotistical, caught up in the vanity of the whole thing, wanting to be worshipped, etc. he's not strung out on substances. what he is, is someone who had a pretty rough time in his teens due to a strained relationship with his disapproving dad, and for a while would just smoke pot and play video games with his buddies (and write songs..) and eventually managed to slip into a record deal and, well, the rest is history. he likes making music! of course, working in the music industry is not all fun and games, or glamorous, but he makes the best of it, screaming into the microphone about his feelings that he later in life cringes at a little. as time goes on the band becomes more nuanced, his lyrical skills improve, songs become more cohesive etc. and that's where he is now.

well, I think he's in sorta-kinda soft retirement mode where he just chills at home a lot and spends time with his wife and his football star son... but he and his bandmates still get together in his home studio to write songs here and there for a maybe-new-album coming up soon-ish.

on the left we have his "I'm at home doing nothing, or I'm out running errands" clothes, and on the right we have the "I'm at the music awards with my wife" outfit, where he puts on a liiiittle bit of his goth flair, even some jewelry.
