We know what you’re thinking: Where the hell is the Almería pod? Not because you particularly care about Barcelona’s 2-0 win over Almería on Thursday, courtesy of two goals from Fermín López (that’s 10 for the season now!), but because of everything that preceded and followed it.
Before the game, it emerged that president Joan Laporta would not travel south because of comments made by Xavi Hernández in his pregame news conference. The Barça boss basically spelled out the reality of the club’s financial situation (which will come as a blow to the Siempre Positivo sporting directors, too, podcast dropping soon before it’s out of date). Multiple sources have even suggested Laporta is strongly considering firing Xavi, just weeks after the pair sat down all smiles and said Xavi was staying after all.
Anyway, the emergency pod alarm was sounded, but as it was a fluid situation, it was hard to pin down when to do it. Toni, trying to go to Turin for a long weekend, even thought Xavi could be fired on Friday (image attached).
Alas, that did not happen, and while we waited to see how the day unfolded and when best to pod, it seemed best to hold off until Saturday, after Xavi has spoken in a news conference, to delve into the latest madness at Barcelona. So the pod will drop tomorrow. Apologies if you can’t wait.
Xavi: no pressure, but you best clear some things up to make the wait worthwhile.
In the meantime, have a good weekend… and stay positive!
