E275: Vinicius racially abused again, Barça lift 27th LaLiga trophy
Added 2023-05-22 14:28:49 +0000 UTCBarcelona suffered their first defeat in LaLiga at Spotify Camp Nou this season as they were beaten 2-1 by Champions League-chasing Real Sociedad. Mikel Merino and Alexander Sorloth got the goals for the visitors, with Robert Lewandowski replying late on to remain on track for the Pichichi. After the game, Barça captain Sergio Busquets received the trophy.
However, events in LaLiga this weekend were overclouded by more racist abuse aimed at Real Madrid forward Vinicius, this time in his side's 1-0 defeat at Valencia. That is where the podcast has to start this week.

Cheers. I appreciate that the more difficult the conversation the more important it is to have it. Just a suggestion for next time - please add a content warning at the start.

Difficult to know whether to cover it and/or how for the pod ... we felt the back and forth between Rik and Toni was worth leaving in and as Rik points out and you here, provides an understanding into how these situations have prospered in Spain, LaLiga etc. Sorry if anyone was offended -- SM

2023-05-22 19:07:25 +0000 UTCLads, the opening to this podcast was absolutely shocking. I am (was) a big fan of Toni but he was spewing some absolute garbage at the start. Toni doesn't understand that racism takes many shapes and forms and not just politicians saying bad things about certain people. Racism is inexcusable - as a political weapon or a way to destabilise a player. His deranged ranting shows why Spain is very racist and apologists like him allow racism to remain in that country. Hopefully he can educate himself better. And kudos to Rik for calling him out.
