Hi Sean, there is a union, yep, the AFE. Rubiales used to be the head actually. As ever in Spain, there is a power struggle between them and the RFEF and LaLiga etc ... but my overall impression since I have been here is that their say very rarely gets listened to. If you remember the leaked audios of Pique-Rubiales, one of them was the two scheming to get Messi to send a public message of support for AFE pres. at the time in exchange for AFE pushing through Saudi I think it was ... so their say does have some weight as well, along with LaLiga (Sam)

Just a little referanse to my thoughtprovoking questions from last Q&A. Today, Lise Klaveness, lawyer, openly gay and president of the Norwegian Football Association; who set the record straight on the last meeting in Quatar, about disrimination against gay people and sportswashing etc.received a prize for her courage. And she promised to do it again next month. Hopefully she represents the future of football. She is a great rolemodel for young people who like football. I still hope that some day one of the big footballnames can show the same courage one day.

In America, the big professional leagues all have players unions and everything regarding salary caps, schedules, etc is collectively bargained. Isn’t there a players union in Spain? For at least the Primera? Shouldn’t they have a say in rules for their league?

(Rik here), I think the point Toni was trying to make was that at young ages a lot of gay players may have been forced out of/put off football because of bad attitudes in the dressing room, so there might not be a lot playing at the top levels as the pool shrinks before it even begins. Hopefully, that is changing (and seems to be)! I think Spain does have quite a macho stereotype historically and that is changing too. Thanks for the thought-provoking questions!

Thanks for good answers on my questions. But I must admit I mildly shocked on Tonys answers on the questions referring to gay footballers. Did he actually say that gay people arent hard and tough enough to be great players? I really hope I misunderstood because of upresise English. Im 50 and if he is actually 32 there must be a culture in Spain where being macho trumfs respect and sense of togetherness. 3rd level experiences isnt quite the same as top playerexperince or...anyway another great pod:) Jørgen is not a refereename but a legendaryforwardname:) Klinsmann etc
