Practice / WIP Recording of "Disbelief"
Added 2025-04-05 01:43:42 +0000 UTCBAAAALLLSS. I am so immature. I don't know why I clicked record right in the midst of randomly saying balls.
Anyway... This was written for a Twitch songwriters event where the song was based on a prompt word. As you can probably guess, that word was Disbelief. I've already adjusted the lyrics since, but the structure is still the same. I'll likely pick a different song title as well. At the point of this recording, we were clearly still working on how to end. Also, apologies for the horrific solo...
For this songwriting prompt, I decided to write about the disbelief I often experience when jails continue to fail in their duties to supply certain services to inmates despite requests from the court. Video suites are closed before all matters can be addressed. During the pandemic, jails would say they were unable to accommodate for an accused to attend their own preliminary inquiries virtually. Jails will ignore requests of the court for a person to get medical attention. Jails will lockdown due to staffing shortages multiple times a week and make it impossible for inmates to speak to their lawyers, take a shower, go outside, etc. Jails will cancel inmate visits without any notice to the people visiting them. Some jails will not accommodate a video appearance the next day. Jails will simply say to a court, sorry we can't bring this person at 9 AM as the court required. It just goes on and on and never ceases to shock me.
It is not the fault of the individuals who work there. They are doing their absolute best with the limited resources they're provided. But what they're provided is abysmal, which can create an unsafe environment for everyone.
