We'll talk about that this week, and spend some time thinking about why some of us look at these stories and believe and others look at these stories and don't.

The question of belief is ambiguous. The stories are written to convince and confirm. The response is to resonance. We are never without preconceptions. Then there are interpretations that necessarily change as cultural context changes. The facts are presented as obvious, and we have no evidence to refute the testimony, except that of those who saw things differently. Their thoughts, if written, do not survive. I suspend disbelief to see through the story, as if myth, to see the truth within. God is the source of all that is miraculous, and all is miraculous. One can have faith without knowing.
