Week 14 is about Jesus' strategy and the trajectory of this story
Added 2020-01-20 05:47:41 +0000 UTCBy the time we get to the middle of Matthew chapter 4, we still don't have a crystal clear picture of what Jesus' quest is, nor do we have a clear picture of the trajectory of this whole narrative; but we know it's important because both God and the Devil showed up for it.
We're going to set the stage for where this is all headed and how the original audience would have seen it at this point.
Thank you for supporting the program. It means a tremendous amount to me and my family.

Thank you. I have to agree to the mystery. Evil and misfortune and the complexity of creation are the result of freedom. Science in relativity and quantum theory often refer to time as not passing, just present to pass through. Trust that we are a part of something bigger and not abandoned is indeed a comfort.

For myself I see this as a source of great comfort - God's workings are often so beyond our understanding I have started to just lean into not knowing. The verse Habakkuk 1:5 includes the line from God to Habakkuk "for I am doing a work in your days that you would not believe if told". God is saying this to a man crying out at God asking him for understanding of why he allows suffering, and the sin of the nation of Israel's. 5 years ago this frustrated me to no end, but with time I've started to see it as a beautiful mystery and a source of comfort. Everything can fall apart, but trusting in God's grand redemptive plan means that you still have a hope and joy in Him. Unfortunately I'm not answering your question but am more giving you my individual perspective into how this question affects me.

In both bible text, and scientific thought there is a tension between determinism and freedom. I believe in and experience freedom, but within a timeless all knowing God. How is this duality to be understood?
