Matthew pivots into a new pace and feel in chapter four...

...and I'm excited about it. To me, Jesus' temptation is far and away the most interesting passage we've looked at so far, and the implications for us today are very different than anything we've seen so far.
I don't know if you can tell, but I love doing this. Thanks for making it possible.

Those are generous words, and I appreciate it. I'm hyper-enthusiastic about scripture, but I'm not one to dismiss the history of the Church, and especially not one to dismiss reason. Sounds like we might be wired similarly :)

Matt Whitman

I was raised a Catholic in the 50s and 60s when Latin was still in use. We studied from tradition, the Bible was interpreted for us. There was an element of exclusion then, as in this was the only way. I went to public school and became interested in science, I was a high school science teacher for a time. I became certain that certainty was not an answer for me. There came a time in my late thirties that I wanted to return to church, and found comfort in the Episcopal church. They have three pillars: scripture, tradition, and reason. This balance appealed to me. I am unlikely to find comfort in a fundamentalist approach to scripture. I do now place an increased value on the ancient wisdom and historical significance of the varied Christian church. Matt’s teaching is deep and insightful. His understanding enriches my own.
