I am fairly certain Somalia was communist in 1980. They had split from the soviets in 1978 but the government was still communist though US allied after 1978.
2022-02-08 03:12:04 +0000 UTCYugoslavia post ww2 had an interesting point of divergence for alternate history when it tried to create a 'Balkan Faction', or really a Balkan union composed of Yugoslavia, Bulgaria and Albania. Bulgaria was all for it but the Soviets stopped it dead, this was before the Tito-Stalin split in the 1950s.
