Introducing Nahoko!

The human body is a hardy engine, flexible in function and adaptive to its surroundings. Imperial scholars teach that humanity was homogeneous in its earliest days, but slowly diversified as new lands introduced new challenges. The harshest environments were often the richest, but choked the senses with harmful Aether, and those who survived changed beyond recognition. Stigmatized as being "beastly" or "monstrous", Imperial common law recognizes these offshoots as "Inter-Human", equal peoples all sharing the ancestry of mankind.
Then there are the "combiare", those who were human but became something else. Combiare are not borne from nature, but from circumstance, and such was the case for Nahoko. Raised in the underbelly of a great city, Nahoko's home was shared by dangerous opportunists. Thievery and racketeering were common, and when a neighbor's debt came due, strange collectors visited the encampment. The leader offered forgiveness in exchange for the weakest among them, and Nahoko was selected. She was bound and told to remain still as a glowing jewel was forced into her mouth, instantly jolting her body with strength and energy.
Svelte limbs overflowed with muscle as her vision turned red, and she soon tore her enraged hands free. Her brute swings were returned with slashes and gunshots, and a fire started amidst the chaos. When she regained consciousness, she found herself buried and alone under the rubble of her deserted home. Those in the city who did not run from her offered no leads, and she soon took up mercenary work to both tame her power and fund her search for answers. Her journey eventually led her to Sonda Nyl, so close to the closure she seeks, but unsure of how to take the final steps.
