The 2023 Dual Octatrack 3 Hour Beat Set
Added 2025-08-29 15:10:42 +0000 UTCSKIP TO 30:00 FOR THE START OF THE SET
Here's the story behind this one:
I had told everyone that I was going to stream a DJ set using two Octatracks and a mixer. I used that week to build a set, order it, prepare proper transitions. The night before the stream was scheduled I electrocuted myself while working on a microphone. The nature of electrocution, even if mild, is dangerous, especially when it comes to your heart. If you get shocked, all it takes is something small to throw your heart off its rhythm and create a potential problem for you.
Of course I immediately went to the ER and got checked out. Snapshots of an EKG aren't good enough to check for irregularities in a situation like this. They have to monitor you for and compare readings over a series of hours. Keep in in mind I'm still scheduled to do this DJ stream the next day. I end up staying in the ER all night in a hospital bed, unable to sleep, unable to do much except eat dry crackers and listen to podcasts...which wasn't so bad. Actually that sounds like a good Sunday. My tests show that I was not affected by the shock so I was allowed to go home in the morning.
I go home and take a nap. I wake up a few hours before the stream is supposed to start, so I pop up out of bed to start getting ready, when it hits: some sort of instant super flu. Over the next couple hours it starts to get worse and worse to the point where an hour before the scheduled stream, I am sweating and everything else. I can barely get out of bed but for some reason I was dead set on not cancelling this thing. This is that set.
Just know that while I'm doing this three hour Michale Jordan flu game against Utah business, I am completely out of it and I'm sweating like crazy. But somehow, I made it through and doing the set actually gave me the adrenaline I needed in order to power through most of the worst symptoms. It ended up being super fun, I definitely make a couple mistakes due to exhaustion, but ultimately glad I did it and I'm happy I saved it so I can share I with you.
This set also includes some tracks that I made with guests on the Jon Makes Beats streams from Twitch in 2017. These include Mndsgn, Machinedrum, Devonwho, Kiefer, Eli Goss, Heather, Low Leaf, Jeremiah Jae and Dibia$e. I can't remember if all of these make and appearance so I'm just throwing names up in case.
