RE: Member's Only Videos and YouTube Memberships

TLDR: The video above will explain the basics and my reasoning, but if you're looking for more or maybe you're more of a reader, I've written this message for all of you:

--------

Sometimes, I have a difficult time looking back at the start of all this in order to put this journey into perspective. Not because it's emotional for me or anything, but it can sometimes actually be very hard for me to not see the forest for the trees. I'm too close to the inner-workings and day-to-day management of all this to really understand what it must look like to someone on the outside, who's far away enough to see it in one frame and go "Oh, so it's _______"

Regardless, I do think it's still important to do so because it's easy to lose sight of your initial goals and to stay true to yourself and not get lost in the grind of pursuing more. The amount of a vision each person will concede in order to get to a certain place varies and it'll never not be a compromise. I guess this is my way of saying I'm making an adjustment to how we do things that better represents my vision for what this project is.

I am going to start providing Members Only videos to those who either choose to support here on Patreon OR on the (NEW) YouTube Memberships. I'm starting YT Memberships alongside the Patreon because I want to make this move as accessible as possible for all parties to participate in.

YouTube Memberships are starting today as a way to provide a preferred gateway for those who don't want to leave the platform but also would like more than what they're getting. They won't, however, be getting everything. Here's the breakdown:

Patreon members get access to the livestreams, the Discord, sample challenges, End of video shout outs and, depending on the tier, access to the Living Beat Tape. You will now be getting access to extra videos. These videos are full-on uncompromising JMB beatmaking videos, only they'll be longer with more-relaxed editing. The first video is 20 minutes.

YouTube memberships will match the three dollar tier here, except they will only be getting access to the extra videos.

Objectively the best place to support in terms of what you get in exchange for your support is Patreon. It's also the place best for me, personally. YouTube takes 30 percent off top. Patreon takes 8.

But I'm not here to discriminate or judge and I want to accommodate those who, for one reason or another, would rather keep their YouTube channels on YouTube. For one I do like the fact that YouTube members will have these extra videos pop up in their home feed. That's something I can understand and I hope this move will be good for them. Some of you are free members and maybe that arrangement works better for you.

Regardless of where you choose to support (and I consider being a free member support!) I appreciate you taking the time to make me and my creative endeavors a part of your life. Here's to the future.

Jon

Sounds like a great plan! Happy to know that being Patreon supporter is already the best way to go (a 30% cut is diabolical).

I’m the same. Sometimes I’d rather read what someone has to say so I’m glad others feel the same

completely besides the point but i cannot overstate how much i love that you wrote a text as well. i am one of the people who hated the pivot to video with a passion, i can read faster than anyone can talk and i prefer reading to videos by a country mile. thank you for accommodating that. (and also i think the YT stuff is a cool idea, hope all works out well.)
