Dear Book Club Readers,
I hope you are keeping well and your reading is going well. You may have already guessed, but I can now officially confirm that we have welcomed our newest member of the book club team into the world.
Evelyn Rose McEvoy, or Evie for short, is healthy and was born in the early hours of the morning at just over six pounds. The first books I am reading to her were selected thanks to your great recommendations: Goodnight Moon, followed by The Velveteen Rabbit.
I've also been reading her a lot of poetry, and passages from my favourite novels, and trying to explain to her the influence that titans like Homer and Shakespeare had on the many great writers that came after them.
As mentioned in our update video, I've had to take a little bit of paternity time around her birth to look after her and acclimatise to this significant life-change. But we will be having our Shakespeare ranking video this weekend coming. And next weekend, we will be back to scheduled programming with our lecture for Rebecca, where I’ll finally be speaking from the point of view of a new father.
I have so many things I want to talk about with the whole experience. And I'm already planning a discussion on how I'd like to teach my daughter to read and going through the great works of children's literature, which will be a lot of fun once I've managed to catch my breath (and hopefully a tad more sleep).
The video above is not polished at all as I had to use my phone to record when I got a moment. It's very much felt like one long day since she was born. But I really wanted you to meet little Evie and share some videos of her from her first few days in the world.
I would also like to say a deep thank you for all of your beautiful well wishes, positive thoughts, and encouraging words. You have made this special journey even more special. I love you and I appreciate you so much.
All best wishes, speak soon, & happy reading, everybody!
Benjamin (& Evie)
