Good news, I went with textile paint instead and it looks way better!

2025-09-16 01:07:23 +0000 UTCNot long ago, I used undiluted bleach to pre-treat some coffee stains in a white cotton towel. When I took it out of the washing machine, the fibers in and around the pre-treated areas had completely disintegrated, effectively shredding the towel. Please consider some further experimentation to make sure you don't destroy the dress after so much time and effort! (Would hydrogen peroxide be gentler?)
