An investment into my TF rendering pool.
One RTX 3090 drastically reduced my render times, and it's great to do 3D work on. With its 24GB of video RAM, I can have Maya, ZBrush, and Substance open simultaneously with detailed sculpts and ginormous textures and Maya won't spontaneously refuse to render.
But... why buy one, when you can get two for twice the price?
Ah, yes.
And another system that will properly house it...
I bent the knee and paid a scalper this time, so this GPU was twice the price by itself. I now rightfully deserve scorn for supporting that nasty business. However, I am partial to the Founders Edition and I fear they will be limited run, which would make it difficult to get later. The market is so dry. So... maybe justified? Scalp prices have come down a lot for the high end, thankfully.
I built this system to be my main computer's little render buddy. This sports an AMD 5950X and 64GB of memory on ASUS X570-based motherboard, which in turn bears the weight of an offensively large Noctua Chromax heatsink brick. 2TB Corsair MP600 NVMe is the main storage. Corsair RAM and case fans with addressable LEDs set the mood and assail passersby at night.
I haven't really built my expected main computer, though. I might go all out for that one.
Wishing everyone a great week.
