Doof! Canon - July Nomination Vote

Hey friends! It's that time again. Take a look at the list below and vote for the movie you'd like us to do this month's show on!

Everything Everywhere All At Once (2022)

An aging Chinese immigrant is swept up in an insane adventure, where she alone can save the world by exploring other universes connecting with the lives she could have led.

Written and directed by Dan Kwan and Daniel Sheinert

Notes from the nominator:

Ok, I know it literally just came out, but it's a fantastic movie and worthy of the canon.  Plus it's now available on streaming platforms so you can watch it at home if you really want to, though you really should go see it in theaters.

Mulholland Drive (2001)

After a car wreck on the winding Mulholland Drive renders a woman amnesiac, she and a perky Hollywood-hopeful search for clues and answers across Los Angeles in a twisting venture beyond dreams and reality.

Written and directed by David Lynch

Notes from the nominator:

Like most David Lynch films, Mulholland Drive leaves you with a lot to think about no matter how many times you rewatch it.

Gallipoli (1981)

Two Australian sprinters face the brutal realities of war when they are sent to fight in the Gallipoli campaign in Turkey during World War I.

Written by David Williamson and Peter Weir. Directed by Peter Weir

Notes from the nominator:

A young Mel Gibson in a WW1 Australian  soldier’s journey and eventual experience in one of the most wasteful battles of all time. Peter Weir directed and Gibson won Best Actor in the Aussie equivalent of academy awards.

The Virgin Suicides (1999)

A group of male friends becomes obsessed with five mysterious sisters who are sheltered by their strict, religious parents in suburban Detroit in the mid-1970s.

Written and directed by Sofia Coppola

Notes from the nominator:

It’s a haunting, beautiful and tragic story of five mysterious sisters told through the eyes of neighborhood boys.  Beautifully and languidly shot, wonderfully scored, and perfectly paced, the Virgin Suicides delves into the unknowingness of the adolescent girl experience in painful, honest and humorous ways.

Office Space (1999)

Three company workers who hate their jobs decide to rebel against their greedy boss.

Written and directed by Mike Judge

Notes from the nominator:

I figure Mike Judge should get another shot at the Door Canon, this time with his (IMO) best movie. And one of the greatest comedies of all time.  Office Space is a razor-sharp satire of the absurdities of modern-day office culture, and the frustration and quiet despair of a couple of early 30s office workers as they're slowly ground down by the system.  And despite that, it's utterly hilarious.
