Projects management update

We're often working with projects with a lot of footage that we transcribe and index using the tool, and navigating through all of them has always been a pain, especially if the transcription.json files are not all in the same place on our storage.

We just pushed update 0.24.0 on GitHub which allows better management of projects inside StoryToolkitAI.

Introducing projects

You can now create projects that can hold transcriptions, stories and even other text files in an organized list in the main window of the tool.

Besides seeing all the files in one place, the main advantage of adding files to a project is that you can perform project-wide searches by clicking the Search button in the main window or via Search -> Advanced Search in current project... in the main menu.

By the way, you can also link plain text files to projects, and the tool will use them too when performing project-wide searches. This way you can also include research documents, your notes, screenplays or whatever else you think might be relevant for the project...  We're planning to find a way to include PDFs and other file formats soon!

Read this for more details about projects.

Why do we need this in the tool?

The main idea with this new feature is to create an organized structure in the backend that we can always look into when we want to send a request to the Assistant. Having all the

important content linked to a project, including documents and other files, not just things we generate with the tool, would make it much easier for AI to dive into them and answer our prompts, and even generate relevant selections and stories that we can later import into our NLE via EDL or XML.

How to update (git only for now)

We want to take care of some things before compiling the new standalone versions, so this feature is available only via git pull for now.

It's important that you back up your StoryToolkitAI configuration folder before the update and keep in mind that any project.json file found in there might be irreversibly changed.

Please report back any bugs or issues you might notice and we'll try to take care of them asap!

Your feedback is important

By the way, we get more and more feedback from users who are trying out the improved Assistant - some are using it to select footage for them, and others for tasks like summarization or translating transcripts to other languages.

If you've tried that yourself and want to share how it worked out (or if it didn't), feel free to drop a comment, or text us in private. Or let us know what keeps you from trying this on your own - by the way, this link contains some tips on how to use the Assistant.

Thank you for your support

Thanks again to all the members for your support! We're currently covering most project expenses ourselves, but your pledge brings us one step closer to sustainability and allows us to bring new updates more frequently! So, thank you once again!
