An isp I used to visit had two tall metal cabinets full of Hayes modems. In office I worked at, i setup a Cisco AS3000 for employee remote access and virtual modems for their desktop so they could dial out using the PRI instead of individual modems and pots lines at every desk at every branch.

2023-09-13 02:30:21 +0000 UTCin the early days, dialup ISPs would have one modem like this for each active dial-in line. That is what we'll be covering next. Later on, they moved to equipment to handle much more active calls (T1 PRI here in the US could handle 23 calls).
