Fade in on the captains' quarters of the USS Enterprise. It's dark, the tone somber. Enter James Kirk, still in his dress uniform. His expression is conflicted - he knows he's earned this command, but the circumstances it was given to him still weigh heavy on his mind. He walks around the space, getting a feel for it, these are his quarters now. As he looks at the empty kitchen and lounge, echoes of laughter and conversation from happier times can be heard. He pours himself two glasses of scotch - one for himself, one for the absent Christopher Pike, clinking the glasses and taking a sip. His eye is drawn to Pike's record collection. He thumbs through and pulls one, unseen to the camera, out with a melancholy smile. Closeup on the needle dropping and cut to Kirk, uniform unzipped to the clavicle as he sips his scotch while listening to Row Row Row Your Boat. He sits in the moment, enjoying the music, before saying confidently "Computer, Captain's Log" Smash to credits
