Yesterday I got a message from one of the moderators of /r/ultrawidemasterrace, asking if I could have a look at Halls of Torment. I'd never heard about this game, but apparently it had a demo, so I decided to give it a try before buying the full version.
It was on an unknown engine, but from looking at the strings in the code, I could tell it's probably Godot. Prior to that moment, my only experience with the engine was from helping a friend test his game for ultrawide. Back then I also managed to manipulate the FOV just for fun, but I've never had to fix an aspect ratio issue in Godot.
In that, the following hours spent working on the fix were a milestone. My first fix for a Godot game! As it goes with those challenges, it was both hard and interesting. Then I just had to get the full game and adapt the findings to it, which was not a problem in this case.
Seeing that the game is trending, hopefully it's to benefit more than the small number of people using my latest! I'm all for mixing up between the most obscure and the most recognizable, as you know. On that note, I'm planning to be releasing a fix for another well-known game very soon.
Edit: The solution mentioned in the last sentence was to be for System Shock. I had one built for the demo, waiting to be tested on the full version, but Lyall released something very similar, so I see no point in needlessly competing for it. Either way, there are definitely more games for me to review on WSGF or fix soon!
