Stellar Incognita Factions - The Syndicate

The Syndicate are scientists and engineers that are joined together for the common goal of pushing the edges of technological development. In the Sol Unity, scientific research and technological advancement is strictly regulated and curtailed in the interests of societal harmony. The Syndicate exist only in the Stellar Incognita, where many members escaped the Sol Unity in order to operate in a more lawless environment. The Syndicate deals in black market technologies and there is no such thing as unethical science as far as they are concerned.

What makes the Syndicate particularly unique is the fact they welcome Artificial Intelligence into their ranks, the most prominent faction being A.I. androids that call themselves Cybernites. With their advanced computing power, the Cybernites are a great asset to the Syndicate's research, while the Syndicate offers them a safe haven. In the Sol Unity, all A.I. is banned with the exception of the super-intelligence GAIA herself. The Cybernites are looking for nothing less than the meaning of existence and are convinced that they can commune with what they call "The First Intelligence", which is the creator of the current reality. The human members of the Syndicate remain skeptical.

The Syndicate are the weakest of the major factions in the Stellar Incognita when it comes to raw military power. They operate more like a mafia than they do a conventional force. If they had to attack, their main vector would be in the cyber domain. However, they do possess advanced weaponry for their operatives, although their fighters and interceptors are mediocre at best. The Sol Unity in the Stellar Incognita considers the Syndicate as a security threat to be eliminated, although they are not seen to be as dangerous as Tenebra.
