I first observed the vehicle as it was stopped in the center of the intersection of ********** at a red light. The vehicle then began to accelerate at a high rate of speed and I was pacing the vehicle at a steady speed of 48 in a 35 zone, heading into a 40 zone. While pacing the vehicle it also failed to maintain it's lane, entering the lane to the right. For these (3) reasons, I initiated a traffic stop using my overhead emergency lights. Personal Contact/Observations Phase:

I made contact with the Olivia. Olivia had slurred speech, watery eyes, and denied consuming any alcohol. I could see an open container which the passenger admitted was hers. This was a vodka cranberry beverage.

Driver Statements:

Olivia admitted to drinking (2) alcoholic beverage before field sobriety exercises were conducted. She admitted that her last beverage was 25 minutes ago.

NARRATIVE

On 02/05/2022 at 0212hrs I initiated a traffic stop on an SUV. The vehicle was stopped for a red light violation, failure to maintain lane, and speeding, 48 in a posted 35 and 40 zone. I paced the vehicle using my department issued 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe which has a valid calibration certification. The vehicle was paced for a sufficient distance at a consistent speed.

I made contact with the driver who was showing strong indications of impairment. After field sobriety exercises were conducted, I came to the conclusion that Olivia was impaired and unable to operate a motor vehicle safely. I placed Olivia under arrest by placing handcuffs on her behind her back, checking for double lock and fit. She was transported to the jail where she agreed to provide a chemical breath sample.
