Would you buy a book called "An Encyclopedia of Professional Fisting"?

Over the last year or so, I've had an idea kicking around in my head about possibly writing an MMA based book. I didn't really have a definitive idea of what said book would incorporate, but recently it's become a bit more of a solid idea: An illustrated chronicle of all of the most insane moments in MMA. Be they in Pride, UFC, Strikeforce, etc. The downside is that a project this size would need to be done via a kickstarter or something similar, as being brutally honest, I don't have the money to pay up front for distribution, printing, editors, and an artist. This is all hypothetical though, it may never happen, but its one of those nagging ideas I just cant shift!

I wanted to gauge opinion here first. And please, be honest! If you'd have zero interest in this, it wont hurt my feelings. I mean, not by much anyway. I'd probably only cry for a little while. Also, if you have any experience with kickstarters or you've written or self published anything in the past, please just drop me a DM to chat about the process.

Here's a gif of Frank Mir for no reason.

Also work in Lineal 3 is underway properly now, writing began on Saturday and the first 5 minutes of video is done!

Great comment 😂😂😂

By “accident” eh?? I read you loud and clear…

Napoleon

Dude honestly for me, this would be absolutely fascinating. This is the stuff most people don't get to hear or read about, the casual viewer or tepid guy (like me, ive done martial arts for many years but not actually a fan) but the background interesting shit that no one hears, this would be a wicked read into the the behind the scenes stuff, I would buy a copy straight up, and if it's written in your narration style I would buy an actual signed copy. Brilliant. Also, if you could wipe your dick and leave a smear on the inside front cover I'd be down for that too, just saying if you did it by accident you know 👍🔥

Ricky Finn

I think the title would look a bit SUS in the bookcase. especially if you can only see the spine, coffee table book about Pride or UFC early days sounds easier, more accessible, less potentially embarrassing to own, like, Oh those books, yeah I'm into MMA vs Im into people getting fucked up!

Sebastian Scholey

I wouldn’t mind. Also, I think you’re the one that can write the screenplay for the Hulk Hogan biopic.

Luc St Leger

Ultimately it would come down to the price for me, to be brutally honest, but I'd work hard to get that book on my table since I know I enjoy your writing if your scripts for the show on Youtube are any indication. That isn't to say I want your book to be cheap. I want you to benefit from the sales. I'd get a hold of a copy eventually. You know what, I'll just get a copy. I talked myself into it mid-writing this response. Fuck it I'll get two. Maybe three if- I need to go. We'll talk later when I have my four copies.

Asuvir

I was hoping to make it easier for you (not having to find a publisher, distributor, etc) but I may have doubled your workload 😅

Mike Oubliette Blake

yes! this!

Heidi

You produce the highest quality MMA content out there, I would absolutely buy the book and drop a small (only because I'm poor as shit) donation.

Matthew Callow

Conceptually I think it’s a good idea as a coffee table book. Big hardcover with lots of illustrations, like the beastie boys book they put out with Spike Jonze sort of- but the title might throw off people who aren’t already in the know.

Dan De La Ghetto

And actual fisting

Napoleon

That’s actually a great idea. I could probably do both! Thanks!

Napoleon

Have you thought about releasing it on Audible instead of a printed book? It would NEED to be voiced by you though.

Mike Oubliette Blake

With that title, it'd also have to cover boxing.

Marsh P

As a guitar nerd I once bought a mock-encyclopedia of rock guitarists where the author ripped apart weirdos like Ritchie Blackmore and Yngwie Malmsteen who deserved it but also mocked regular guys like Joe Satriani which was neither witty nor clever. I'm sure you can make it work for mma though. Would buy it.

Matt

There are drawings

Napoleon

I can’t read

Allan Hutton

Haha no it’s all good man, I wouldn’t expect anyone to support this idea out of obligation 😆

Napoleon

Appreciate it!

Napoleon

Thanks Heidi!

Napoleon

😂😂

Napoleon

Cheers Nik!

Napoleon

„Chasing me dreams !“ If its a Dream of yours, go for it. Your writing should work especially in a Book. And everyone of us heard your Voice a thousand times. If i ever should be schizo i Hope i hear your Voice 🤣❤️

Alex Götz

Voted no. I mean, I'm a huge fan, mostly due to excellent writing, but a book just seems like a wrong medium. Videos seem like a perfect fit (which is paramount for enjoyable fisting, I imagine).

Nik_W

I wanna say: before I ever saw your channel, i was indifferent about UFC/MMA. I liked wrestling okay but it was not something I'd ever re-arrange plans for. Ever since finding your channel I have found myself trying to find more information about certain things you mention, finding out more about this or that person, just trying to get a better understanding. My opinion has evolved from "it's just sweaty cock-punching" to: there are some really interesting fights here, I am very interested to know more. I would 100% buy your book and that is with only my tiny understanding of the culture. (edited for spelling)

Heidi

It's a strong yes for me. One of the biggest reasons why I love your projects so much is the writing. Your have a razor sharp witt, and as someone who likes to read, I'd probably have a great time with a book like this.

Joey Malone

The reason this is a no for me is because the premise doesn't seem to allow for much of a throughline and I wouldn't want to read a book like that. It also seems like it could be a less good version of your usual content since it wouldn't have video. Not trying to be a hater, just giving feedback. Best of luck.

a

I’d prefer my money and your precious time go towards more of your kick ass videos👊👊👊 *If you really need it I suppose I’d begrudgingly donate to your kickstarter.

Fuzzy Yaynus

tbh i'm more into the amateur kind

disk-kun, the mascot for the famicom disk system

Lol all good I was just messing around. I just really love your metal references and humour in general.

Frederick Doyon

Its all good man! Thats why i asked for honest replies, id hate to try and get the project going to find out half the people only said yes out of politeness lol

Napoleon

Whats a little more awkwardness between family though??

Napoleon

Appreciate it Heather!

Napoleon

A real conversation piece

Napoleon

Sounds like a must-read! Only problem is, I don't have a tonne of disposable income, so I don't wanna be all like "Strong yes from me!" and then not have the funds to put aside for the kickstarter + purchase. Would absolutely read anything you put your name/moniker to though.

Fauxial

I'd buy that book. However as much as I'd love that title, there is enough awkwardness between me and my family without having a "history of professional fisting" on my bookshelf

FutMike

If you write it....I'll buy it. Simple.

Heather

finally, the perfect coffee table book

SniffyTugBoat

I left a typewriter on the nearest train tracks to try and lure him out

Napoleon

Haaaard as a rock baby, lemme showyasumthin

Napoleon

oh dear god youve juut struck gold

Napoleon

Fuck fight Chuck?

Napoleon

I'd like to think i could do both videos and a book on the side at the same time without having a breakdown...

Napoleon

Well i cant guarantee there will be, but ill do my best. And as collateral, ive already made a metal reference in the opening paragraph if Lineal part 3.

Napoleon

I appreciate you 💪

Napoleon

*nods*

Napoleon

Did you ask Matt Hughes for assistance? His book was phenomenal.

Your Buddy

I totally want this, but only if you committed to a video accompaniment that you could also sell/release. Your talents are so well served in the video medium, and this would make an epic video. Even if some content was recycled, you owe it to yourself to do it 100%!

Marshall Dungan

Most MMA books read like Brock Lesner wrote them. A well written chronicle of what makes MMA worth all the crazy shit associated with it could be so good. You could even narrate an audiobook version.

Ash

When I say “a hard yes” I mean ROCK FUCKING HARD yes.

jason goldstein

Mr Blownapart get out of my head please.

Joseph Jackson

Jack Remiel Cottrell

I would buy it in a fucking heartbeat

Mike Havok

Make it an Audible too with the hit song "Strut" playing in the background

DogeTheFireLord

I just want to fck with Chuck

M E

I wouldn't want it take to much time away from the MMA history videos. Cause i want you making those for another 50 years. But yea I'd buy a top 100 crazy MMA moments book from you in a heartbeat

CultureMind

Holy crap!

Dave Cottrell

I would absolutely give a bit of money on Kickstarter for that. You've been my favorite creator for a while! And if there's one metal reference in it I will be super happy lol (I'm a simple man). It's not often that I see my two biggest passions together.

Frederick Doyon

I'll probably have to get two copies because my not interested in mma at all is gonna want a signed copy as well she hates mma but loves napoleons videos 🤔 i think it's maybe his voice 🤔🤔 gonna have to keep an eye on her 🤣🤣

Evilscarface

I wouldn't automatically buy any MMA encyclopedia, but if you wrote one I sure as shit would.

Dave Cottrell

I would buy it for people as a gift.

ice bucket

Signature Kickstarter Edition 🤔 I'm in!

Royce

I don't doubt it, man. A solid reason to enjoy your work in book form is knowing I'd be safe from that fucking Steven Seagal song.

Karl Dixon

Frank's nodding, I'm nodding 👍🏻

Royce

If the book is anything like your videos which in my opinion are the best mma documentaries on YouTube and beyond so the value can only go up if it bears your signature 😁 also the author picture has to be you dressed up as steven seagal 🤣

Evilscarface

Will be a straight tone, or will it have your brand of wit?

Luc St Leger

Cheers Karl! Yes, its not something ill just blunder into for a laugh. The only reason i think I can pull it off is that I've basically done all the research needed for it already thanks to the videos, so it wouldn't be a huge effort to take the most insane moments from the videos, and turn it into a story basically. But i know how volatile kickstarter is, and how easy it is to screw up a project and leave people angry, which is obviously the last thing it want to do. So i gotta do my homework on this first!

Napoleon

I gotta say, man - this feels like something that is quite high risk in terms of a time, money, and attention sink... But also like something you would totally pull off. I think your humour would translate very well into text and I'd buy it/recommend it as a Kickstarter investment to people based on your reputation for producing ridiculously high quality MMA content (your Pride doc is, as far as I'm concerned, one of the best sports documentaries ever made).

Karl Dixon

I will definitely autograph them, but i dont know if that raises or lowers the resale value

Napoleon

What kind of a book about fisting wouldnt have detailed drawings of said fisting?!

Napoleon

If I've learned anything from my time with videogames, never pre-order anything, not even from me haha

Napoleon

See, I told them to do that 🙏

Napoleon

The power of Blownapart prevails, they just freed me!

Jack Finney

Would be the book be available with a napoleon signature 😁 either way i want this book buddy to leave it sat out with the title on full display i can only imagine the questions I'll be asked about it 🤣

Evilscarface

I think it would sell based on the title alone, although a lot of the buyers may be very disappointed when they actually read it

Napoleon

Well thank you Sebastian! That means a lot to me

Napoleon

Depends, does it come with pictures of said fisting?

Ben Cahill

Well I hope you get out of the lift in time to read it my friend

Napoleon

Gotta hook the buyers somehow

Napoleon

Not only will I buy it, but I’ll PRE-ORDER it.

That One Raccoon

Imagine hearing the self service till say unintended item in bagging area please wait for assistance. I will definitely be buying that as an ebook

Jamie

Yes! Yes! A thousand times yes!!!!!!

Adam Fallon

Appreciate your Frank Mir gif Nap

Breadman

I don't read books too often but I would buy a book just to support your work :) I'm just some random guy but: your works, so far, have had a big impact on my life and I'd like to support in any way I can.

Sebastian Bergenwall

I'm currently trapped in a lift and this perked my spirits up. As a loyal viewer, most definitely, and I've been hoping you may write a book for some time!

Jack Finney

Giant pink envelope with a picture of a fist slathered in vaseline on the front? Vaseline is from the cutman, obvs.

Napoleon

Undecided based on shipping fees, but also I'm an editor and I'll do you a deal.

Jack Remiel Cottrell

I dont know how it would be possible to write a book with that title and NOT include the old Ken Slamcock

Napoleon

That is an absolutely eye catching title.

Alaa Mohammed

Only if you mailed it with really massive. obvious packaging that let my entire household know exactly what I was purchasing

Joshua Gascon

You’re very talented at making videos, I’d be more likely to pay for that.

Robert Monti

Will there be some of the ol Ken slamcock in it?

Chris ritter

I vote yes for the illustrated edition.
