I meant to respond to this forever ago -- sorry! Usually I try to do some general research, looking at a bunch of examples of a thing, but then stay away from directly referencing any one specific thing when drawing a new one. I may have seen side panels like these somewhere, or just a lot of skirt features suggesting the same basic lines. If Eliza and Veronique's dresses sport similar features it's because I consciously tried to make them look like the product of the same fashion zeitgeist -- possibly even the same seamstress.

So did you look at a lot of gowns prior to drawing this (and Ms. Dauterive's) gown? The lines accentuate the curves women wanted to call attention to in the times of corsets and bustles and hoops. I feel, however, like the blue panels reaching around to the front from the sides, are unique - I can't recall seeing anything like them.
