Traveling to Akita tomorrow*
Added 2021-02-11 11:46:44 +0000 UTCHi everyone, I will be traveling to Akita for a festival I was invited to live stream tomorrow. I am heading there by Shinkansen. Although it is still technically the "State of Emergency" I must physically be there to bring you this episode and I wanted to let our community know in advance I have permission to be in Akita for this. In fact, the SOE is still disturbingly undefined in Japan for residents, but the show and the channel must go on and there is nothing to keep me from going to do my job. A journalist must travel to get the story. That's right, this is not a vacation. I'll be taking as many precautions as I can like I did all through 2020.
The situation is different in every country and although traveling for tourism is not a good idea or allowed in many countries, traveling for work is okay here in Japan. I will do everything I can to support local areas and people, buy a bunch of stuff and take you all with me. That what OIJ*GO is all about.
** I really hope you enjoy this Namahage festival in Akita's Oga Peninsula! It's a 4 hour Shinkansen ride to get there. On Saturday AM, I'll be exploring a Japanese school - the Akita Inaka School. I have been asked by at least 10 people to see if this place is any good so I'll get the story, LIVE. If you're interested in Japanese school, this will be a good one to watch. I am coming back to Tokyo on Saturday night. Stay safe everyone - I will do the same. See you tomorrow on the Shinkansen platform!
