You could have a supercomputer, won't help when Papyrus overloads. >~< I lost more FPS to scripts than I did to textures.

This. I wasted more time looking for mods and fixing the load order, instead playing the game. Also you lose so much FPS if you have to much eye candy and not so uptodate Hardware.

BEWARE! Modding skyrim in a spiraling pit, where every time you get close to being done you "just need one more." Real fact: a week turned into 3 months of modding for me. By the time I was done I wasn't into playing anymore >~

Definitely do minimal mods outside of visual improvements for your first play through, but I’d still recommend The Paarthurnax Dilemma mod, it fixes one of the more annoying quests in the game!
