It’s official. Tonight at 20:30 Abe-san closed down Japan until after Golden Week, May 6th. People will have to give up those family trips this year so we can stay safe. What does this mean? Japan is taking this serious for the first time. The State of Emergency 🚨 moved from 7 prefectures to the whole country. It’s not known if workers will stay home tomorrow - Friday. The government will send ¥100,000 ($950) to everyone but hasn’t said a date yet. I think the country is starting to embrace what we’ve known for the last 6-8 weeks. STAY HOME, this will get better faster for all.
This means that May will continue to be closed down and June is highly questionable. I’d say any trip before June 20th should be kept on hold and after May 6th, we’ll know if this will last another month. If the country is locked down, I worry about May’s postcard and package but I think the mail will rebound at the end of April as commerce must continue when the line flattens.
For those with the virus, Tokyo is sending an ambulance 🚑 and transporting you to various hotels. The Shinagawa Prince Hotel is one of the hotels listed on the news. They’re set up.
Playgrounds around the city are finally getting shut down! Entirely too many people out even today. That suddenly change tonight.
Game systems like Nintendo Switch are hot commodities! I’ll try to get one on the 21st when BIC Camera holds a lottery.
I’ll be giving a through update tomorrow AM JST on the direction of Japan and travel here for May and June.
