Eh, it's the cost of travel. 10% doesn't strike me as bad as a traveler. Though it must suck for the poorer in Japan. A consumption tax is generally more regressive even though it's a flat tax as it will proportionally cost the poor more as they spend (%) more of their income on necessities than the rich. But most taxes end up regressive in practice anyways so it is what it is.

2019-09-04 01:30:29 +0000 UTCThe problem is that is it a problem for businesses to adjust each time — a lot of cash registers have to be reconfigured. It’s apparently not easy to change the system. Easier to do it and be done with it, like a bandaid! Rip it off, scream, and move on.

It’s getting easier to do, but don’t assume such a service is always available and if it is, note that sometimes, the prices are probably cheaper somewhere else 😂 Like duty free at the airport. Sometimes it takes time to get the money back. Sometimes it’s not worth it for $5 to increase paperwork and wait in line.

It sounds like a lot of people need to know! I really enjoyed this stream. It's nice to see news and current events covered, particularly those that may have an effect on visitors. And an interesting story behind it too!
