Thank you to Katayamma for setting this up and Nosh for helping out with organizing and setting up / primary testing. If you’d like to beta test and help give feedback, please leave a comment below. Limiting it to about 25 people initially. You should download DISCORD on your phone (app). (Also looking for more moderators here — let me know if interested.)

I work and live on the graveyard shift on the US east coast, basically go time for Japan. I'm thrilled at you joining Discord, I see it as another way to find out when you're streaming so we don't miss anything(among other stuff)

People are less likely to be trolly when you can hear the other parsons voice. Team Speak sort of ruled this space for 10 years but it also forced you to subscribe to one community. Connecting and disconnecting to each community one at a time. What Discord offers is the ability to be connected to all your favorite communities. Platforms like Twitter, Imgur, and Reddit are about having a hub where you can subscribe to all your favorite communities without having to choose. I thunk building a web portal has the same failings as TS. They just aren’t utilized any more.

2019-04-12 10:32:43 +0000 UTCI'll try to keep an open mind, but I'll add my concerns that we're trying Discord because it's a trendy new thing and it'll end up segmenting and diluting your efforts. I do love the community aspect of it though and trying to bring everyone that follows your channels (not just Patreons) under a single umbrella. I wonder if building a website with content that you own (as opposed to using Discord's platform) would have the same effect? You could even open its doors for other contributors to write about Japan, share their stories and adventures, and have a forum that is openly searchable (again, as opposed to Discord's closed network). Sorry if my comment comes off as negative — it isn't —, I'm just trying to understand the reasons behind this. Having worked on Open Source projects for almost all my life, I know the power of having something publicly available that increases inclusivity rather than using platforms that absorb your content. Having said all that and having never tried Discord myself, I'd be more than open to give it a go as a beta tester!
