Are you ready? (I’m not - still making coffee. It’s 9am in Tokyo. On in 15 — or less! Click the video — to see the video countdown or watch the playback.) See you soon! -John ٩(^‿^)۶
bottom comment doesn't show on iPhone 8 too which isn't the long iPhone screen :( . Patreon needs better QA testing of their apps.

Yes, I am still studying, though sporadically, usually because of my work load. I took 3 semesters of Japanese in college and, since then, I've been self-taught, using a variety of resources.
Basically, kanji are pictographs, that is they are simplified drawings of what is being written. I found learning the origin of the characters, especially the simple ones, helped me. For example yama (山) or (mountain), looks like three mountain peaks and kuchi/guchi (口), which means mouth or entrance, is shaped like a mouth (sort of).
It's vitally important to read and write (by hand as well as on computer) kanji as often as possible. Remember the adage: if you don't use it, you lose it. I found reading children's books helpful; I started with the youngest grade level, then worked my way up.
I also suggest that you learn the kanji that you will use most frequently. I started with the most common verbs, adjectives and nouns. For example: Iku (行く) to go, atsui (暑い) hot, and yama (山) mountain. Remember your verb and adjective root forms will most often end in ku (く) and in (い). Those endings will change with the conjugation.
Learning the basic kanji characters is important because most kanji characters are compounds of simpler kanji, for example mori (森), which is forest, is made using three ki (木), which is tree.
Finally, learning the proper stroke order is also helpful.
Hopefully, this information will be of use to you. Good luck with your studies.

Discord is being used more and more lately. It has been massively used by gaming guilds for coordination, conversation and resources. Now even worldwide J. League discussions are going on on it. 😂 Should be fun for Only in Japan. It'll allow direct chats and even voice chats.
It's a bit annoying that the Patreon app doesn't work properly on long iPhone screens like on the iPhone X screen. The last (bottom) comment is not displayed.

Thanks for answering our question John-san we learned a lot from you talking about China and the Chinese, thank you! Oh and yes we know how busy you are so dont worry, never expected a meet up, was actually super surprised on our first meet up last year, we will always be greatful! Have a great day and hope everything went ok with Netflix. Btw, did you know the shows avaliable in the U.S. on Netflix are different from Japan? I can’t watch certain shows I normally watch in the U.S. in Japan but I can watch the new Star Trek Discovery in Japan but not in the U.S. Aloha 😁🤙🏽
