We have a Little Tokyo in Downtown Los Angeles that has a mix of old and new Japanese-owned restaurants and shops. It is a big tourist destination particularly during the summer when the Japanese American Cultural Center has festivals. There is a less touristy Japanese locale in Los Angeles called Sawtelle Japantown where I hangout the most. Lots of Japanese expats and exchange students frequent this locale because it is so close to UCLA. There are also bigger Japanese-American communities in the cities of Torrance and Gardena also located in the Greater Los Angeles area with a high concentration of Japanese restaurants and shops and festivals as well.
