2018-10-16 14:38:04 +0000 UTCI trademarked the logo in 2017 and it’s valid until 2022 :) but I may extend it and add another. It’s not cheap to do! You have to add clauses and purposes for it. Each one costs $200-$300 so it adds up fast! I didn’t cut corners with mine. Cost $2000 with legal fees. I will try to do it myself when extending it.

2018-10-12 16:40:19 +0000 UTCI asked the creator of this channel nicely after so many messages (hundreds!!) from OIJ viewers. They took it down within 2 hours. The fact that they do this means they don’t care about copyright but care about their channel because my trademark appeal to Youtube was real. It must have scared them - to get a strike would hurt their channel. They knew they were doing something bad and without a trademark, I wouldn’t have any legal avenue to peruse. So far, paying $2,000 for the trademark has had some purpose :)

2018-10-12 13:04:53 +0000 UTCThe world of copyright is tough, its near impossible to prevent reuploads due to there always being those stubborn countries that copyright the videos. I really wish Official Channels can have no region locks or copyrights on their original videos. Maybe someday.... what do you guys think?

2018-10-11 14:52:25 +0000 UTCThe thumbnail was removed and we have a small victory! They received the claim from the YouTube legal department and that may have had quite an impact. If I was a new creator, I don't think the tools exist to protect yourself from things like this. The problem is that a great many people say this including YouTube's algorithm - it recognizes logo, faces, backgrounds! (seriously) and they know this. However, their video already passes 6M views. Preventing reuploads is like WACK-A-MOLE. It takes so much time to police it, it's impossible to focus on or I'll end up doing it full time instead of creating. By the way, OGASAWARA video looks great! Coming shortly :)

2018-10-11 14:22:11 +0000 UTCI feel like if more official channels on youtube existed for these videos, then these types of channels wouldnt exist as there wouldnt be a need to reupload these videos. As to why they get so many views, proabably because people abroad have no way of watching those types of videos if no one reuploaded them. Im a big fan of NHK world and most videos i watch are not from the official NHK world channel but reuploads, and entire episodes at that. There needs to be better management for sure regarding these things. Hope all is resolved soon john!

They won’t remove it until forced to by YouTube, I think, but I love to be surprised :) they’ve basically taken video from many other creators and made lots of money from it. Crazy people can get 6M views from a video where they didn’t make anything.

2018-10-11 11:05:25 +0000 UTCCoincidentally, this video was a "Recommended" video to watch when I accessed YouTube a couple days ago. It looks like the owner of the channel was trying to capitalize on your trademarked channel to get hits, etc. I remember reading somewhere that YouTube is trying to get rid of channels like that imposter who simply repost original content from other channels. Channels like that is something worth reporting to YouTube as a impostor of your channel. Although YouTube allows for other creators/users' content to repost if it has not officially aired in a certain country, this type of situation makes it hard for original creators to maintain their branding and original content.
