Hello everyone! It's time for our monthly call in show and I'll be taking calls from Skype on 3/10 Sat morning @ 9:00am Tokyo Time.

3/9 (Fri) New York @ 7:00pm
3/9 (Fri) San Fransisco @ 4:00pm
3/10 (Sat) Paris @ 1:00pm
3/10 (Sat) Mumbai @ 5:30am
3/10 (Sat) Sydney @ 11:00am

Hope the times help :) Please write a question below and I'll spend the first 5-10 min responding to them as people get settled in online.

Thank you everyone for the support! We've increased the community by over 100 people since 2018 started and I'm very thankful for the support!
My SKYPE is onlyinjapan@weblish.net
I will keep calls to 5 minutes since I always go WAY over. I know Jim and I can talk for hours :P but we'll try to keep the pace faster but informational and fun :)

Starting in the second live stream of the month, I'm going to add a theme so these streams can be more useful to Patrons. My goal is that you can go back and find the content for reference to either help your trip or watch again. A theme makes it easier to search - with tags. See you soon! -john

I’ll be traveling around Japan in October. We start off in Tokyo, travel to Kyoto, Osaka & Hiroshima. We are still trying to figure out if we will leave from Osaka or go back to Tokyo. I was wondering is it better to get the JR pass or Icoca??

How is the road traffic in Japan in general? How do you feel about putting on learners sticker on your car?

Where is a good donut shop in Tokyo?🤡

You've mentioned what is the best time of year to visit Japan, which was a very good topic to talk about. It's even better that you and Peter have different preferences and talk about them. Now here is another for you. It looks like Peter lives fairly near central Tokyo. You mentioned (I think it was the Kotatsu episode) that you were planning to move. What considerations do you have in mind while planning? I hope no spoilers here. I'm gonna grab a BlueJay ... or is it a carefully refrigerated Satsuma?

Hi John, you were saying Golden week is coming up. Do a lot of businesses close during this week?

Amanda C.

Hi John! I've always heard that school is incredibly competitive in Japan, but once you get into a university life becomes more relaxed for a student? Is this true?

Hey John. The Academy Awards were on Sunday here in the states. I enjoy watching it every year. Does Japan have something like the Academy Awards honoring the best films released in Japan each year? Also, daylight savings time begins on Sunday. :)

Hi John. Have you ever given any thought to writing about your life in Japan in a memoir? In the future that is, as you are hardly old :) You have certainly lived an interesting life and have told many stories with many more to tell and I think it would make a very interesting read.

I will be traveling to Japan in a couple weeks, landing in Narita International Airport and spending a couple days in Tokyo before heading to other parts of Japan including Tottori Prefecture. I will be bringing my drone and was wondering if there are any good spots in Tottori Prefecture to fly a drone and get scenic photos. Is there a nice spot near Mt. Daisen? Is there a place near Uradome Coast or near Tottori City? I will be spending 5 full days in Tottori Prefecture and wanted to know if there are places for hikes, scenic views, and/or sightseeing spots to go to? Should I visit the Eshima Bridge? Are there any local guides that can show me around Tottori Prefecture? I will be renting a car so I want to see as much of Tottori Prefecture as I can for 5 days. Thanks.
