You either have a vagina or a penis.
Vagina = woman
Penis = man
You can’t change that period.

It's not that black and white. Not everyone loses weight for the same reason.

This is a good take and unfortunately, some ppl are too narrow-minded to understand ur POV.

Also for some reason I don’t really understand when people are like “oh well there are other problems than just trans problems, we should focus on those”. It just sounds similar to back in the day people saying “well I don’t think it’s really time to start bickering about gay people, people are starving around the world, we should focus on the bigger problems”. We would never advance the standing of minorities if we can only care about huge gigantic problems that are so complicated and difficult to fix, just because there are worse things going on doesn’t mean that humans shouldn’t be given equal rights. I do understand that they don’t do it out of malice but it kinda sounds like this to me when they say that

When you have people saying “gender is a social construct, we should change things” and they’re met with “well we shouldn’t even be focusing on gender in the first place” is just like...that’s the end goal for them, for everything to be so mixed that it doesn’t matter. Kinda similar to me if you said in the 80’s and 90’s that “oh who cares about who you wanna have sex with” to gay people etc that are trying to break out of the mold but get treated bad because they haven’t ascended past the whole concept of sexuality...are rigid gender roles and everyone being straight gonna fix it or is change gonna eventually lead us to a better place socially?

i honestly think demi is going through another mental breakdown
2021-05-26 01:57:58 +0000 UTC
I don't know why, but the part about all the presidents being the same and the people in those positions really only doing it for themselves and doing what they can to get what they want reminds me of a scene in Boardwalk Empire where the three Capone brothers beat up a bunch of democrats during a speech so they could sway the vote. Just a more directly violent way of doing it

It normalizes noncis people if you're not focusing too much on the Demi Lovato part

There’s a couple of things I want to put out there.
1. Commenting on what Nick said about “sticking to it” - Demi said they’re still rediscovering new things about themselves and about being non-binary. I personally believe it’s okay to change your mind later down the road when you gain more knowledge about yourself and your surroundings. People change constantly. However, not everyone has to put labels on it. Like I’m sure majority of people out there had a punk or goth phase when they were younger. Was it a “phase” when we were going through it? Honestly, no. I know being punk was my identity at the time. But then I got older and gained new interests and new understandings and changed how I identified myself. Some people never need to “out-grow” being punk or goth and they live happily as an adult because that’s how they identify. There are also plenty of cases of trans people who go through sex change and then later in life reverse back to their original gender because they realized that’s who they really are. In the end, let people identify how they want. It does little or no effect to anyone else’s life so why try to detour or restrict they’re journey?
2. Attention or not, I’m happy Demi made this announcement. Demi is a celebrity and it not only normalizes being non-binary to the common person, but it also informs all of the interviewers, publishers, co-workers, fans, haters, and anyone else that encounters Demi to use “they/them” pronouns when they refer to Demi. On top of that, seeing announcements like this in your household can encourage lgbt+ individuals to come out to their loved ones. When Elliot Page came out as trans, my family and I were watching ET cover the news and it gave me the opportunity to come out as bisexual to my conservative and reserved dad. Public “coming out” news is annoying since ideally, we’d like to live life and just not have to deal with shoving our lifestyle down everyone else’s throats, but unfortunately, the reality is there are still so many people against/not open to/not educated on/not exposed to the lgbt+ community. Any recognition to the community, acceptance or not, is a step towards normalization and I think that’s beautiful.
This has been my TED talk. Thank you ✨

I think most of us agree with what you said but you know.... you're talking about people with common sense. There are a lot and I mean a lot of those who abuse this right. What if someone identifies themselves as female today then next month a male then a year after, a non-binary? How would it work? Do we have to check on the system everyday to see people we know still stay the same as they were yesterday? Again, I'm not arguing your point, I'm just saying that we must look at a problem at every angle. Although Demi sees herself as non-binary, biologically Demi is a female, literally on her identification.

She may not care about being called "he" or "she", but that doesn't mean people who are being misgendered are overreacting or are complaining about nothing. Being deliberately misgendered and accidentally misgendered is very different. Most nonbinary or trans people I know don't care if people accidentally misgender them. Some don't even bother to say their gender if their interactions with people are brief. Deliberately misgendering people is degrading and it tells them they basically have no autonomy over how they should see themselves.
Instead of saying "gender/pronouns don't matter", how about first accepting trans and nonbinary people? It's very hard to say that pronouns and gender don't matter if people who don't identify as cisgender are still being negatively targeted. Even if we lived in a society where all genders were treated equally, it's just disrespectful to misgender someone if you know their pronouns. Again, I urge you guys to talk to more trans/nb people lmao. You guys are looking at it from your own perspectives, which I'm assuming is very cisgender. Tbh kind of a miss on this one. I'm sure there are a small percentage of JK fans who don't identify as cisgender.

Same! Not a huge fan of hers. She's troubled and she keeps walking that same path even though she has the will power to stop it. Sometimes I think she's legit just doing this just to get sympathy. And it's not healthy

I know it was unintentional, but them using the wrong pronouns for Demi Lovato made me cringe... even after they read what their preferred pronouns are. I really think you guys should talk to more nonbinary/trans people instead of trying to see it through your lens, which comes from a very cisgender (and therefore limited to fully relating) perspective. Some of this was just... yikes... I know you guys respect all people and who they are, it was just that some of the takes were a miss.
Intentionally calling someone of the wrong race to be racist or degrading may feel similar to misgendering someone in order to degrade them, it doesn't mean it should be taken lightly especially if the person's intent is to hurt. Being ignorant or just not knowing is another thing. When people intentionally misgender people, it's really them saying, "I don't respect you and I have a say in what/who you are. My interpretation of who/what you are is more important than what you know about yourself."
Steve might be referring to trans-related deaths (if you're too scared to ask someone in person try Reddit or something. Just try to ask in a respectful way, but you will find people that are understanding that the concept is new to people. I think it's better to ask and say you're trying not to sound rude than to not ask questions and stay ignorant). Trans women have been murdered because pussy-bitch guys freak out on them. Regardless of how you feel, pretty sure murder is a little of an over-reaction. To be honest, I'm a little unfamiliar with non-binary-specific related deaths but it's probably similar.
It's also possible to work on multiple issues at the same time. NB people just wanting to be respected without the mocking jokes or people telling them that they don't know what they are doesn't take away from the water supply as I don't think there's a community of NB people taking the cities funds to print "they/them" signs that depletes the funds for the water supply. Citizens can care about more than one thing, too. Things don't have to be a literal life/death issue for it to be important or for people to at least sympathize. Most NB people I know who are vocal about it are so in an educational manner. The "did you assume my gender!?" people are a small minority that somehow gets the spotlight in the red pill side of YouTube where videos of "feminists get utterly destroyed" are suggested on the side.

Disclaimer: I'm not an anti-lgbt+ person. Accept yourself and love yourself and express yourself. That being said: I don't support demi lovato bc they just seeks attention and make every little thing into a problem they have to tell the world so we'll feel sorry for her. Honey, you went to rehab, you live in a great home, you have a loving fanbase, what more do you want!?
