While it's true that criminals in the UK are more likely to flout the rules and buy a black market gun than a normal citizen, the availability is so low and the price so high (and the consequences if caught so severe) that the majority don't. Hardcore gangsters will be armed but normal petty criminals won't. Look at this example, the guy didn't use his gun on either the other criminal (which he might have if they had both been armed) or the police, and in fact tried to dispose of it to avoid additional charges. Americans are swimming in an ocean of guns, and they don't even reallise how it escalates every encounter they have. In the US this story wouldn't have been "man steals a stolen car", it would have been "2 car thieves shot dead by police".

Idk about England but surely they’re like Australia, in that it’s not illegal to own guns...there’s just a million regulations you have to pass.
