My favorite theory is the time dilation "twin paradox" form of time travel. We know time is relative. Now, if you separate twins send one to space traveling at the speed of light and instruct them to return after 1 year. When the space twin returns he'll only be a year older but his twin will be 20 years older. So, once we figure out how to travel in space at light speed we can theoretically skip forward in time.
