FYI two men were involved in this mistake, the agent (Indian contractor) and his manager. The mistake was due to the poor user interface that Citi Bank uses for its corporate transfers. With the way the UI was setup, they thought checking a certain box meant it paid that type of amount, ie. Pay the interest, but it was the opposite.
