City of god doesn't actually abuse children, cuties has scenes of actual inappropriate things with kids in compromising positions.

I want to believe the director had intentions to send a message about young girls being sexualixed, but a lot of the problem was less about the plot and more to do with the fact that they used actual children in the film. Teen dramas show teen characters in sexual situations, but not actual teenagers. I was willing to give it a chance, but people who watched it said it felt like the message was completely lost because you're just shocked or disgusted and it feels like you're on the FBI watchlist. If they used adult actors to play these characters maybe it would work? People would be mad about something different, but at least it doesn't involve the actual children.
From what I've seen the people defending it don't get why you don't need to have actual children just because the characters are and they don't get how other people might watch the movie (some people are surprisingly too sympathetic to pedophiles for my taste). Then you have people that defend it too much...
Netflix did kind of do her dirty, but it doesn't mean she's right either.
