Fort Hood Soldier Vanessa Guillen's Death Puts Spotlight On Military (ft. Gina Darling)

I know someone personally that was stationed in fort hood. Apparently, everyone knows how of a shithole that base is. The person I know said he requested to move to a different base MANY times and was told “you either get out or you die here” literally. And. He got out.

Everything about this case is infuriating. As far as I can tell we failed that Soldier in almost every way imaginable. These failures are indicative of the Command Climate, but the only pass I will give that this is NOT a failure of Army SHARP (Sexual Harassment Assault Response Program). All of the reports I've seen about it indicate that the details of sexual harassment come entirely from her family. She never formally reported it for fear of reprisal (and understandably so). The most fucked up parts are what I perceive as the deliberate cover up steps. She was killed in her unit's Arms Room (one of the most highly controlled access areas on post) so there absolutely had to be a log of her signing out the key to open it, someone had to sign the keys back in, and if not that are has to be physically inspected for security several times a day. She was falsely reported accounted for over a period of time I can distinguish but the also classified AWOL DESPITE the fact that her ID card, cell phone, keys, and car where all still found in the area (which are pretty big signs she didn't leave own accord). Also just to throw it out there the numbers here at FT Hood aren't great. I want to say she is about the 15th Soldier to go missing in the last year, and the 3rd set of human remains found in the last quarter

Tbh sometimes I get disappointed in Geo and Tiff as Latinas you guy stay quiet on topics about the Latinx community. I wish you guys were more connected to your Latina side, but I understand you guys aren't around the Latinx community as much. I'm glad this is finally being covered by you guys! :)
