Fanart Friday

A quick wrap-up to the week (a bit late I admit) but another Star Wars fanart entry for a Jedi in the collaborative story I am part of. This Jedi is a Nelvaanian, a race of blue-furred canine-type aliens introduced over halfway through the animated "Clone Wars" arc.

In this image, the Jedi is named "Avar", and he was in his late teens when he was taken by slavers on Orvax. Nelvaan was being incorporated into the Sovereign Alliance of Systems and Avar had been earning pocket change by performing street magic, not realizing that he actually had the Force. Once the Alliance liberated Orvax he was freed, and taken to the Jedi for training.

"Nelvaan" has an interesting backstory in Lucasfilm; back in the 1980' s there was an animated movie called "Rock & Rule". It was made by a Canadian company called "Nelvana" and featured a post-apocalyptic world where animals like dogs, cats, rats, and others evolved to take over from the now-extinct human race. It was Nelvana's first big attempt at a major movie and featured some big name voice stars such as Debbie Harry ("Blondie") and Iggy Pop. The movie was a major flop, however-- costing $8 million to produce and bringing home only about $30,000.00 in return. The animation was quite good for the time, though, and even featured some very early computer generated effects, although not very many.

I'm not sure how solid the connection is between the "Nelvan" animation company and the appearance of blue-furred canid "Nelvaanians" is, but many who do a deeper dives into Lucasfilm behind-the-scenes lore feel that there is some sort of homage going on. Regardless, they seem to be accepted into he overall canon an d they are part of the collaborative story I am working in over at Spacebattles.

Avar has the Jedi crest on his shoulder, modeled after Obi-Wan Kenobi's Jedi armor from the Clone Wars series, and I also gave him the Naboo Royal Crest on the chestplate since he is part of the Sovereign Alliance chapter of the Jedi, and the Sovereign Alliance is run from Naboo.

Anyhow, more BOHICA Blues stuff next week!

Aye! "Rock & Rule" Mentioned! IMO that movie is underrated, I guess it is obscure but I still managed to see it, I have a thing for movies from the 70's, 80's and 90's after all
