Sound! Euphonium, The Movie - Our Promise: A Brand New Day (Chikai No Finare)

Here is part 1 of a 2 part series!

I forgot that the next step in the Sound! Euphonium journey was a movie so I was pleasently surprised when I got home to record.

I did finish the movie in one sitting. Part 2 will be coming next week.

The story with the new characters is really exciting and nerve wracking. I wanted to chew my nails this whole movie!!

Contrabass/double bass is far more the normal term used compared to string bass outside of the US, at least with everything I've seen from Europe and Japan.

I mostly agree with you about not 'checking out' when performing, certainly within larger ensemble performances with multiple duplicate instruments when you're playing notated music. Active listening is also one of the most important aspects of playing with other musicians regardless. Tweaking the temperament and intonation of the group to suit the keys of the piece when warming up sounds like a fun process, listening for beatering or the rub between certain intervals and adjusting to taste is certainly something I've done before when exploring more subtle nuances. But in smaller bands playing original material or jam situations, typically with people you already know well, sometimes things just click and you end up having what is almost like an out-of-body experience where your subconscious takes over and you feel a little more like a neutral observer rather than an active participant.

Finally, you meet my baby Kanade. I saw your comment about not knowing how you feel about her. Season 3 will definitely be more enlightening. I love her. She's a little gremlin who likes to cause chaos simply because she wants to see the world burn. The fact that she's so close to Kumiko makes it so funny. I love their relationship. This movie, while not my favorite part of the story because it recaps too many things from the novels (I would have preferred another season of Kumiko's second year instead of a movie), is still an important piece. We see Kumiko grow in many ways, in her relationships, the band, and her future. Shuuichi is a nice guy, but Kumiko and Reina have so much chemistry that it's impossible not to think they have a thing for each other. The only time you remember their romantic interests is when they're literally mentioned the show doesn't focus on them at all unless it wants to remind you "hey remember they're not gay lol" But anyway, I'll keep enjoying the incredible queerbait.

Ugh. Sapphire is such a badass name though!

Sapphire is her legal name, but it is embarrassing to her and she prefers to go by Midori.
