Rock Is A Laby's Modesty, S.1, Ep.5 - Lady Ver: "My Heart Is Racing"/Rock Ver: "Whip Yours Out, Too!"

THE REDEMPTION ARC I WANTED!

Alice...you sweet, sweet little sibling.

I am the younger sibling between my brother and I. Without my big brother, I honestly wouldn't be the person you see through the screen. My brother shaped my music tastes, my hobbies and my clothing style. I thought my brother was the coolest person in the world growing up even though we fought ALL THE TIME.

...anyway, I am happy that Alice was proud of Lilisa for being herself. I still feel bad for Lilisa though. Hiding who she really is when she's already pretty great is heartbreaking.

The translation is not right for lower-class people. It should be more like ordinary people or common people. This actually made some characters unnecessary evil. Other than that, love your commentary.

We may note here that all the Maids, except for Kanami, come from the single-mother families. They all have been through a lot of stress in this regard, I believe. It seems Saiki was hit the hardest, she pretty much retreated into her internal world. Akane said in one of the interviews that Saiki was shy to the point that she looked scared. BAND-MAID became her safe place, and especially with the love the fans poured on her, she gradually opened up and gained her self-confidence. Now she is not an Ice Queen anymore, but just a Queen. They all associated themselves with the anime characters they played here, it seems. So many similarities, they said.

Alice is an interesting character. She’s still pretty young and has had people constantly reinforcing the difference in classes, at her school, with her family, and the staff at home. She hasn’t been exposed to anything to challenge that world view and is too young to seek it out on her own. Add to that loosing a parent and having your father remarry a woman and gaining a stepsister that you know nothing about…her world was turned upside down. She obviously picked up that Lilisa was hiding something and assumed the worst…that kind of upbringing and trauma can do that to a young kid. When she saw Lilisa performing, it didn’t just open her eyes to who she really is, but also showed her what true passion looks like, possibly for the first time ever. She finally had someone and something challenge the world view she’s always been taught and opened her eyes to different world. The scene with Lilisa’s mom shows why Lilisa puts so much pressure on herself. It’s not about what she wants but instead the pressure put on to her by the only family she has left, at least from what we are able to see. That’s a lot for someone, who’s still pretty young and also lost a parent, to deal with. Just my opinion, but this anime is all about figuring out who you truly are and that gets reinforced as more main characters are introduced. You won’t always like them, but if you look past the initial introduction you will see them grow.
