In grad school I was taught a similar management technique, they called it a "feedback sandwich".
Bread: compliment / positive feedback / rapport building affirmation
Meat: criticism / negative feedback
Bread: compliment / positive feedback / advice or solution to move forward together
It was fun to practice..
"Hi Lisa, we all appreciate your hard work during these difficult times.
But we really need you to stop embezzling to support your gambling addiction.
Hey, those are nice shoes!"

I think Chill Wookie is catching on to JYP's feedback.
I think the general formula is:
A: Positive feedback + "but" + negative feedback + advice
B: Negative feedback + "but" + positive feedback + advice
The interpretation on whether the assessment is overall good or bad is where it's tricky.
Mako's so good though. Immensely talented, hard working, humble, and seems like the nicest human being. Still get emotional when she's awarded a pendant and meets with Rima and Miihi.

I'm pretty sure they grew Mako in the special JYPe Advanced Leadership Lab in the basement of the building. Agreeing with Mr Jackpots, this becomes more apparent at the training camp.

Mako always reminded me of Jihyo from Twice. Her leadership abilities and the way she cares for the other girls become very obvious as the selection process moves along.
