About recent Patreon changes.
Added 2017-12-09 08:35:03 +0000 UTCWe are doing this post because it seems there is a little confusion about what is happening with this fees.
What are this fees?
This fees doesn't comes from Patreon, this comes from your banks, credit card paypal... But this is not something new, its a charge from transaction that financial entities always do. If you ever were in a little shop, made a small purchase, tried to pay with credit card and the seller refuses to accept it if you didn't bought something more or at least gave you a bad look, this fees are why he/she did that.
Also this charges were already applied to your pledges but were charged to creators.
What is the reason Patreon do this?
What Patreon said is, if this fees are distributed between all patrons, instead of being all charged on the creator, the creator will be more funded.
What do we think?
Apparently this would mean more funding to us, creators, but we know this will make most patrons at least rethink their support. Some can't afford it and some doesn't want to accept it so, maybe, what it's meant to suppose an increase of income for creator, at the end of the day, it's not.
Of course for on side, we are happy to doesn't have to deal with that charges but for the other, we are not sure if it's for the better make you deal with it. In any case, we think Patreon have good intention, and what they want is to help creators. We are not sure if this is the better way but only time will say...
Comments
The only fair thing for the creators would be to lower pledge levels to compensate for the aditional fees they load on the patreons. In my case this changes costs add up a lot. I have to spend 20 Bucks a month more. So i have to drop some creators.

Sorry but free market, free choice to who you do business with. I've always believed in doing something rather than talking about it. I've been a patreon of yours before, I remember the beginnings of chapter 1. You may be worried as you may not have know about these two, but at least know I've made you know, you don't have to worry. There are alternatives if this gets too bad.

2017-12-10 15:09:36 +0000 UTCive loved supporting you since the beta came out but these extra charges are gonna kill me especially with the other patrons i help out too. Before the deadline comes up im gonna be drooping you as well as alot of others to my sadness i wish the success of this game and will now wait for the public release like other poor people. I could only spare a dollar for all the games i love cuz its all i could afford asking for extra is something i cant do. wishing the best

2017-12-09 17:37:14 +0000 UTCThe end result is for large pledges Patreon is taking a slightly larger percent of your pledges, and for small pledges Patreon is taking a much larger percent of the pledges.

2017-12-09 16:19:06 +0000 UTCI culled all my creators I knew I could support elsewhere... and a few others I couldnt. I had alot of patreons... this is punishing people who had lots of 1-2dollar donations. They are idiots.

2017-12-09 16:17:55 +0000 UTCTheir intentions, is to turn transaction fees into a profit center for themselves. By charging many times for an external fee they incur once. Feh.

2017-12-09 11:18:00 +0000 UTCNo, Patreon does not have 'good intentions' with this. They group my payments when they charge my card. 5 pledges, they incur a percentage of the $15 total I'm pledging. Plus a transaction fee of $0.35. Ergo, their cost is x%($15)+($0.35*1). They bill me x%($15)+($0.35*4), picking up $0.35*3, on the way. They accrue transaction fees en masse, but now charge for them piecemeal. Reaping multiple small profits on many, many transactions.
