Early release Fire

So here's the next video in the how to series. We're still working on the audio obviously. It's better but still not where we want it. Y'all will be able to watch this until late tonight when it will go back to private before publishing tomorrow morning.

This production quality in this series is a work in progress and will get better over time. We're releasing the less than perfect videos so they don't end up like the community gardening video and languishing in post production.

Must've caught during it during the period it was switching from unlisted (patreon view) to scheduled to public.

This is so cool! Thank you! You're the grown-ups every person should have in their lives early on in life.

Trēva

I'm not able to view this - any reason why?

Katrina

It's flipping back and will be unavailable for the next 4 hours.

Beau of The Fifth Column

Loved the content. The audio in the beginning was harder to hear than the outside fire demo.

Teckriter

As an A/V guy but also a creative, getting it out there is always better than not at all. Cheers.

If you can find it, lighter pine is amazing. It's the heart of a dead line and can be found in stumps and even in the rotting core of pine trees. Look for pieces that are denser and heavier than you would expect for their apparent state. Peel some off and if you smell turpentine, you have lighter. A few slivers of that in your tinder, or a larger piece in your kindling, will really help get it going.

Great educational content! Oddly enough the audio while outdoors sounded better then the audio indoors.

😆 🤣 yeah, the one of two strikes causing fire is definitely an acquired skill.

Beau of The Fifth Column

That's absolutely my favorite method. So easy to clean up and ready to use for cooking or anything.

Dad taught me to make a self-sustaining fire pit with small logs wedged up on either side of your center fire pit. It'll gravity-feed all night while you're camping out and have easily roused coals in the morning to cook on. Definitely have to clear more underbrush for that one, though. Not a short-term solution, but handy for extended camp-outs or low-flame watch fires.

You and Keith both make using ferro rods to start fires easier than it is for someone who hasn't done it.

Howard Roberts

I like this series because it'll be great to share with scouts

I love that you started with the Dakota fire hole. You can easily make it work to put a little cooking pot over it. Also..., all that wonderful crispy dry wood you have over there is a luxury I am unfamiliar with. ;-)

I'm ready to start playing with fire in the back yard!

"Fire loves chaos". I've never heard that before either. I would suggest that he's burning way too much kindling. I'd save it for another fire and move up to bigger sizes sooner. Or maybe I'm someone who hoards my firewood so it lasts all weekend.
